Aside from Turnbull Stakes champion horse Lucia Valentina, the other winners this past weekend seemed to be lady milliners. As the hub for style on this Melbourne Cup Carnival preview day, the Yellowglen Terrace was awash with beauties sporting mainly Danica Erard headpieces alongside serious showings by Jill and Jack and Kerrie Stanley who crowned current Fashions on the Field ambassador Rebeccah Panozza. Visors are having their moment, while the popularity of cat’s ears refuses to wane (as much as one commenter decried the look on my social feed). I personally went for a little William Tell folklore/Piers Atkinson inspired DIY number.
It will be interesting the see how Flemington grapples with modern trends like midriffs (which could be done tastefully) and playsuits (just say no) in seasons to come. Banned items for members like leather pants could look excellent if styled correctly though I just noticed “pants tucked into socks or footwear” are also against dresscode regulations. Which mainly begs the questions; who is even attempting that?!
Here are among the best dressed racegoers at the Yellowglen Terrace marquee on Turnbull Stake Day. Next up: Caulfield Cup Day
