What to wear to the Polo

Sunscreen at the ready; summer for me means polo season. I adore the atmosphere full of sunshine, Pimm’s and men in jodhpurs. Especially the latter. When it comes to the dresscode the polo is far more liberal than the races, especially in Melbourne. I think you still want to dress consciously though but not like Julia Roberts – complete with prim gloves and polka-dots – in Pretty Woman. Hats are not required, though casual designs are a sun smart option. Designer shades on the other hand do seem obligatory among the marquees. Stiletto heels are a no-no, you need something solid to stomp those divots back into the turf between matches. There seems to be two schools of thought when it comes to dressing for the polo; will you go for an elegant/preppy ensemble or a bohemian/quirky look?

The Paspaley-led Polo in the City at Albert Park is coming up very soon (we have a little more time to prepare for the must-do Portsea Polo in January). So here’s a few suggestion on what to wear to the polo for those novices seeking outfit inspiration.
