Style Melbourne

LMFF: Runway 1

L’Oreal Paris Runway 1 at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival showcased Australia’s established labels (plus one welcome New Zealand interloper). Carl Kapp presented 40’s-style femme fatales in anything but a noir colour palette. Karen Walker jumped a decade forward with 50’s styling; hair-scarves and cats eye sunglasses galore. Nicola Finetti paired sheer skirts with streamlined jackets and one gothic pleated cape. Arthur Galan AG’s classic coats in all variations held retro appeal, especially a blue velvet blazer (personally not such a fan of the real fur though; AG was the main target of an anti-fur campaign outside the show). Twinsets and bralettes stood out during Kate Sylvester’s showing. Manning Cartell reinforced their “cool” status with long-line tuxedo blazers and painterly prints. Finally, Ginger & Smart also offered vivid prints alongside another nifty print featuring a photographic filmstrip.

Are you a retro dresser a la Karen Walker or do you stick strictly to modern designs like those of Nicola Finetti?

A classic beauty look; a traditional smoky eyes/soft lips pairing plus a modern low-ponytail.

This jacket would suit me to a tee.
