Style Melbourne

What to wear to the Polo

In Melbourne during the summertime, three major polo tournaments (at Albert Park, Werribee and Portsea) spring to life.  This “sport of kings” is certainly a social one; a mixture of spring racing and music festival frivolity that has not yet descended into debauchery. Globally they may dress for the polo like it’s a royal occasion at a yacht club thrown by Vogue, but here the style is somewhat more relaxed. Our polo dresscode is still indefinable. Let’s nudge it towards effortless glamour shall we? Remember there will be very nice athletic gentlemen wearing jodhpurs to meet between matches.

There are a few simple rules to abide by; it’s a daytime event, think wedges, espadrilles or flats as the tradition of “stomping the divots” occurs and don’t forget your sunscreen (and H20 intake between glasses of fizz).

Here’s a few pieces for inspiration – from those that capture a chic contemporary look to pieces with a touch of Bohemia – that I think would be simply divine to wear to the polo.
