Almost surreptitiously sporting events have become chic. First Spring racing, then the polo, now the sailing is upping the ante in the style stakes.

Sail Melbourne is playing host to the first leg of the international ISAF Sailing World Cup. On the finale day they throw an invitation-only Lifestyle Party on the balcony of Sandringham Yacht Club. Featuring live music and a runway show featuring Pineda Covalin (the Mexican Hermes), it’s the most sublime space in which to watch the pretty boats floating on Port Phillip Bay’s glittering waters as the sun sinks into the horizon. It’s time to start thinking elegant summer attire (swanning around in a floaty kaftan pretending you could possibly ever own a yacht is such fun)…
