Emerging Melbourne designers shine at iD Fashion Week

Last week, iD Dunedin Fashion Week presented its International Emerging Designer Award to a rising star for the seventh time. From a field of 26 finalists (from 120 entrants across 20 nations) RMIT’s Kate Bolzonello was deemed the most promising as judged by Vogue online editor Damien Woolnough, Akira Isogawa, Stefano Sopelza and NZ designers Margi Robertson of Nom*D and Tanya Carlson of Carlson.

Kate says her collection ‘Clouded’ “took initial inspiration from photographs by Sarah Moon…particularly the narrative qualities in the images. They tell a story by what they imply rather than what they directly show. Images of clouds became more literal inspiration, informing the fullness in the silhouette, the tonal range of the colour palette and the textural layering of quilted chiffon and tulle.”

You can spy more of Kate’s work amid the Dangerous Goods runway at last year’s Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Below you’ll find her winning designs as well as looks from the other Melbourne designers showing at iD Dunedin Fashion Week.
