LMFF 2011: Runway 4

Australian fashion referenced international influence in L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival’s Runway 4.

Fernando Frisoni featured spliced leather, black and white digital print. An array of luscious winter woollies such as shearling and suede were teamed with delicate silks for an urban chic look. I’m partial to the black and green feathered number donned by Simone Kerr.

Christine played up to the notion of Russian aesthetic with clashing patterned silks, fringing, embellishment, elaborate jewels and, of course, fur head dressing.

Megan Park showcased clashing florals and clean lines. Embellished epaulettes on black minimalist frocks contrasted against fully-embellished gowns and matching neck pieces.

Lucette presented a muted palette of safari glam. Camel tones were paired practically with denim. There were longline blazers and pants to match. Pops of red shone through and provided a delightful compliment to a subdued palette.

Nicola Finetti drew attention to colour blocking, and paired down black and white suits with camel in between.

Ginger and Smart was colour blocked to mismatched perfection. Cotton candy pink pussy bow blouses were teamed with red blazers. Lean lines were carried through from dresses to blazers while grey was teamed with pink for a more understated colour burst.

Manning Cartell featured sheer panelled lace, longline jackets and sheer blouses. The standout was a khaki military inspired jumpsuit.

Thurley closed the show with a bang-models flooded the runway, a somewhat choreographed spectacle, full of intricate embellishment, beading, feathers, capelets and embellished epaulettes. The fully-beaded, floor length, one shoulder gown stole the show and closed the show on a note of revamped classical glam-an homage to the refined elegance of a bygone era.
