Yeojin Bae: Le Marais 2011

Classic and contemporary are two words that come to mind when describing Yeojin Bae‘s designs. She takes elements from classic cuts, strengthens them with sharp tailoring and revamps them for the latest season. Inspired by Bae’s favourite area of Paris, ‘La Marais’ is seemingly designed for the fun sophisticate and mixes French laid back chic with the modern elegance seen in Melbourne’s laneways. It is a collection that stays true to her aesthetic but has taken a step further with an eclectic mix of fabrics and cuts.

Yeojin Bae Le Marais Autumn Winter 2011

Beautifully crafted tuxedo style pieces in a vino-inspired palette sit alongside flirty print dresses with lattice detailing. Beaded embellishments are paired with sensual (yet tasteful) cutouts and to add a glamorous touch we see a smattering of silver sequins. There seems to be a piece for every occasion; feminine frocks, sparkly separates, slim-cuffed pants and interchangeable basics. The purple jumpsuit with its impasto brush stroke fabric is made for mingling with creatives at a gallery opening in Fitzroy, the t-shirts with heart shaped sequin bust lines belong dressed-down in an intimate, out-of-the way café in the CBD, the emerald ‘Josie’ wrap dress with its funky knotted hemline could be taken from day to night with a simple blazer and the ‘Mimi’ tea dresses are perfect St Kilda beach BBQ attire.

With more colour than Melbournians may be used to, Bae has announced that this coming season is the time to embrace your inner bold Parisian.
