Fashion Stakes at Caulfield Guineas Day 2010

The Chadstone Fashion Stakes on Guineas Day at Caulfield Racecourse always provides plenty of eye candy for fashion fans, and this year was no exception.

The ‘Classic Lady’ category was a showcase of classic lines, demure glamour and pops of colour as those who have been fashionable racegoers for years strutted their stuff. Winners of Saturday’s final included an almost corporate inspired outfit topped off with black and white feathers and plenty of bulbous pearls, a moss green number composed entirely of vintage pieces circa 1960 and a super fresh white skirt suit complemented beautifully with tan leather accessories.

The men are not at all forgotten in the fashion stakes, with more than 20 boys taking to the runway in their finery. The winners consisted of a handsome lad in a 70’s inspired outfit, an older gentleman bringing back a bit of tradition with his cane in tow, and a classy deep blue suited number. Trends for the boys? Wear a hat – and a pocketsquare, you’ll be a hit for sure.

Local designers were invited to create a piece each for the Caulfield Classic Style awards. Established brands such as Noni B and Mr K adorned their models in their take on classic racewear, alongside up and comers such as Anna Campbell and Alexi Freeman who collaborated with House of Baulch. Yeojin Bae took the title on Saturday, with a delicately beaded black bell sleeve dress topped with a shell coloured headpiece.

The day was topped off with the announcement of the three young ladies who would go through to the grand final of the Chadstone Fashion Stakes. For these ‘Young Fashionistas’ nude and flesh tones were clearly a favourite this season with all three girls wearing the colour in some way shape or form. Less flamboyant headwear appealed to the youthful set, paired with dresses with slightly more demure hemlines that what we’ve seen in past seasons.
