Beauty & the Beach (+ video)

MSFW’s Beauty and the Beach runway lifted spirits of  a corporate lunch hour with its energising collection of summer beach trends for 2010. Key looks included nautical stripes, floral prints, 80’s fluro and pops of colour, forecasted for the equally bright days to come.

From street to sweet, we saw floral and patterned briefs and denim shorts teamed with nautical tees and patterned tankinis. Traditionally a bikini season, this summer may see many of us covering-ups instead in gorgeous one pieces with cut-outs and complimented with statement jewellery.

Black lace and mesh fabric kaftans overlaid bright bikinis and one-piece swimsuits paired with chunky metallic accessories and platform gladiator sandals. For relaxed outdoor glamour, maxi dresses were waisted with stylish belts and were bright, bold and bohemian in this season’s favorite color – violet. Black and white mod contrasts, brights and floral prints decorated casual jumpsuits and shift dresses. Trends including exposed zips, flower embellishments and tailoring in harem pants, shorts and capris featured extensively throughout the collection.

For the guys, bright board shorts and army green cargo pants have been replaced with tailored, patterned and chequered shorts in neutral colours and soft black and white prints. Bottoms are teamed with printed t-shirts and singlets with bold slogans and edgy messages.

So whether you like a demure one piece or you brave the cut-out, Summer 2010 at Target caters for the seaside bound.
