Style Melbourne

best things in Melbourne are often found by wandering off the beaten track, into the maze of fantastic, sometimes chaotic laneways and alleys. It is here, down Little Collins St and past the bustling cafes of Block Place that one of the city’s hidden gems was launched into the spotlight of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.

On Thursday night, guests at the Tallulah launch party were treated to an exclusive showing of the exquisite Tallulah range and conversations with designer Rebecca Sampson. The showroom was crowded with guests lusting over the collection of gold, silver and gemstone jewellery and spilling into the adjacent workshop to see where each piece was created.

The Tallulah range stands out for its bold beauty with pieces using rare gemstones in deco-inspired settings and bright colours. Party favourites included the gloriously coloured cocktail rings with moveable stones that give a satisfying clink with every shake of the hand; the series of silver bird jewellery with champagne diamonds in the wings; and the chunky statement collars worn by MSFW ambassador Jessica Hart with linking geometric shapes and deconstructionist spikes.

Many of Sampson’s designs are inspired by her travels – the Oriental influence is clear in her gold pieces – but she says it is the rare and unusual gemstones themselves that shape her designs. A qualified gemmologist with 22 years experience as a jeweller, Sampson uses her expertise to choose stunning and unique stones to create pieces that stand out from the rest that had guests cooing and sighing wistfully.

One thing is certain – with such a distinctive style Tallulah won’t stay secret for long.

  1. Tallulah creations are INCREDIBLE! Undoubtedly one of the hottest jewellers in Melbourne. She does beautiful, sumptuous, dreamy jewellery.
