‘Exotic Goddess’ Spring 2009 Collection Launch

 next Spring collection from Forever New entitled ‘Exotic Goddess’ was showcased this week in the fittingly exotic-style surrounds of Spice Market. The mammoth parade featured over 60 looks -most of which are not for wear by the shrinking violets out there (which is not a bad thing)!

The array of maxi-dresses were the highlight; most were silky, column shaped, strapless numbers in vibrant rainbow, floral and geometric prints. A kaleidescope print dress is reminiscent of Ginger & Smart’s kite inspired print this season that I love. Since I’m of the height-challenged variety I can probably only get away with justfying a maxi purchase if I also wear towering heels and by cinching them in at the waist. They do look lovely and vibrant though. Wearing one, I envision sporting massive Jackie O glasses (and sunscreen) and swanning around by my azure pool with a Looooong Island Iced in hand while “supervising” my pool guy.

Lots of mini dresses featured towards the end – a few, to be honest, I would only attempt while very young and very cute. Those of Jessica Rabbit proportions may like to check out the minidresses by Lipsy – in particular the ones with black edging and structured bodices. The candy colours and tropical prints are quite cute for spring/summer but I think for a couple of the pieces you’d have to be quite discerning in terms of styling and fabric choice.

I wreck my shoes all. the. time. Too many evenings spent stomping around the city from one (work) event to another. I admit it’s nice to buy the occasional affordable pair just to get me through the next season. I really liked the blue bandage heels that go with daytime jeans to pretty frocks. I desperately need a new pair of metallic flats so will check out their leather “Goddess” sandals as soon as they come in store (these too tend to go through my shameful ill-treatment each beach-obsessed summer). In terms of other accessories this collection already gets my vote for the liberal sprinkling of sequins throughout and a gorgeous peachy-coral colour I’m digging for next season, particularly in the ‘Eloborate’ necklace.

My top ten pieces to watch our for from this collection are (in no particular order);

1. Geometric Print Maxi Dress 2. Rainbow Column Dress 3. Leather Goddess Sandals 4. Elaborate Necklace 5. Sequin Platforms 6. Bandage Platforms in blue 7. Black and Gold Platforms 8. Oriental Garden Print Maxi Dress 9. Silk Art Print Dress 10. Lipsy Corset Tropicana Dress.
