Retail Heaven at Filly’s Stable

Bridport Street, Albert Park is a delightful shopping strip where you’ll find designer clothing, clever confectionary and the perfect cafe. Nestled in the street is Filly’s Stable, the sister to its Middle Park boutique and already with a incredible reputation. A venture driven by lack of space in their Middle Park store, Lauren and Lena, both mums, opened a boutique for customers seeking high quality and exclusivity.

I walked into something special, almost like your own dream wardrobe. Filly’s Stable stocks clothes from all corners of the globe, Australia, Scandinavia, America and France. You’ll find beautiful trinkets, belts, sunglasses and complimenting accessories. Scarves drape walls, and classic wood shelves hold quirky stationary, homewares and beauty products with most sourced locally. Lauren and Lena’s interior designer was a friend, so was easy to brief to ensure the store has a welcoming feel where ‘looking and touching’ is encouraged. An added bonus to the boutique is the kids corner complete with cubby house and a wheelbarrow of toys to occupy the little ones while mum indulges in some personal styling services. When she’s done, there is a rack of kids clothes to filter through, why should mum get all the fun?

Personalised service is the key to Lauren and Lena’s success. They are focused on building rapport with all their customers, most local but Filly’s Stable is fast becoming a well known destination for the discerning Melbourne customer. They ensure they welcome their customers and know them by name. They learn their style, their preferred brands which encourages repeat business. During my visit, a customer from Sydney called trying to find a label they’d seen on their visit in Melbourne. Lena knew them, grabbed their size off the rack and off it went in express post! These ladies can be trusted for honest and comforting service!

Each piece in the store from homewares to clothing is sourced and chosen individually by Lauren and Lena. If they wouldn’t buy it or use it, you won’t see it on their shop floor. During my visit, I tried on Chloe sunglasses, sifted through Lisa Ho gowns, Gorman basics and warmed up to Danish Rabens Saloner knitwear. The brands are endless and since Filly’s Stable mission statement is ‘no fast fashion,’ you know what you’re purchasing will be classic, ageless and not saturated in the market. Stock comes in fortnightly and the ladies have a trip in September this year to Paris to source more wonderful pieces for their anticipating customers. Lauren and Lena also stock their own label, Green Pony which they created when they couldn’t find high quality merino wool basics. Soft and simple basics, Green Pony is fast becoming the perfect addition with your Citizens of Humanity denim or layered underneath your Ginger and Smart or Nicholson knit dress. There is one to only a couple of sizes of each piece so you can be certain your friends and work colleagues won’t be sporting it.

I managed to get the inside scoop on what Melbourne is expecting in terms of Spring fashion. Ladies, no need to continue feeling guilty for splurging on this seasons leather jacket, as they’re being teamed with your summer frocks, and your tasseled sandals. Footwear is huge and last spring/summer bought bold colours but this year we’re going safari, as animal prints greet the sun. It’s all about ‘simple luxury’

I have a one hour lunch break and work five minutes from Filly’s Stable. I feel I’ve found something unique and special, and I’m able to get there on my lunch break. Lauren and Lena have done all the research to ensure we get exceptional customer service and take home a piece exclusively sourced and classic to the Melbourne customer. Living in Melbourne, our wardrobes are becoming more transeasonal and Filly’s Stable collection certainly achieves this. See you soon ladies!
