Style Melbourne

Global Gathering

Global Gathering, held at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, was yet another wonderful day out on the festival circuit.  Despite the gloomy weather, music fans turned out in mass to witness the musical styling’s of both local and international acts.  Yes, it was cold, rainy, windy, however this did not stop revellers from donning their festival finest and we certainly witnessed some great fashion on the day.

Musical Highlights included the spectacular Mark Ronson and the Version Players, with special guest (local talent) Daniel Merriweather.  Ronson performed an ultra energising show complete with a four piece symphony and a marvellous array of crowd pleasing stage antics and musical variety

The crowd was pumping throughout performances from The Gorillaz, The Potbelleez , DJ Sasha and Felix Da Housecat.  The abysmal Melbourne sky, full of dark, gloomy rain clouds certainly was not going to get this audience down.  Various other local and international dance and electronic acts entertained revellers and kept those rain clouds at bay.

Of course, Style Melbourne was there staking out the fashion…and here is what we learnt.
Clear Ponchos are essential, that way, you’ll stay dry whilst showing off your pre-picked (summery) outfit.  Denim Cutoffs and Tie Dye were huge at Global Gathering…hello Beverley Hills 90210 anyone!?

Footwear was interesting, many insisted upon ruining their leather gladiator flats, with most being covered in mud by 2pm.  Dunlop Volleys that began the day white turned an icky shade of brown.  The winner in the footwear stakes?  Gumboots…in all designs, be it green Wellingtons or a fluro version from Target.

Overall, Global Gathering taught us that the 90’s are back with a vengeance…like it or lump it.

Musically, I learnt that Mark Ronson will always be worth heading out in the rain for…possibly one of the best live shows that I’ve ever seen.
