Event - Shanghai Swing NYE

David Campbell in shanghai swing at CrownHappy New Year! To ring in the new year for 2009, Crown held an invitation-only party for around 1000 of their closest friends. Tottie Goldsmith, David Campbell and his band performed, as did dancers from Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance at the Anne Peacock hosted event. The theme was Shanghai Swing - a nod back to cabaret, the 1930’s and the perceived exotica of the Far East at the time. Guests would expect a lot of sequins, fringing and glitz. The magnificent Palladium ballroom was dressed up, influenced by the Art Deco movement and guests were treated to a six course meal on tables laden with crystal, black and red decoration to finish of the year in a sumptuous, sparkling fashion. whitehouse institute parade

Leanne Whitehouse founded the Whitehouse Institute of Design in 1988 so a parade of recent fashion graduates was a fitting way to help celebrate their 20th anniversary. Just before Christmas, Sydney student’s work was shipped in for a colourful and eclectic runway show as the first round of Melbourne graduations is yet to happen this year from their newly opened local campus. Let’s hope we will have the opportunity to take a peek at our home grown talents at the end of 2009.

Event - Fashion and Film Premiere

xmas fashion and filmLike everyone else in the world during December, Fashion Revealed threw a Christmas Party for its faithful followers throughout the year. However, Fashion Revealed wasn’t the usual free VB cans and party pies affair. It was a classy night at The Atrium in Federation Square with champagne on offer and the promise of a great show ahead.

The Mute Group opened the show with an energetic dance to some hip RnB tunes. With makeup like zombies and decked out all in black the audience didn’t quite know what to expect but when the music started this group of five dancers showed they had the moves and had all the crowd tapping their toes along with them.

After some minor technical difficulties and providing the audience with more alcohol, despite the ticket price including only one drink (yay they cheered) it was time for the fashion part of the evening to begin. Fashion Revealed is all about bringing new and young talented fashion designers into the spotlight. Read More…

Event - Global Gathering

Global Gathering, held at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, was yet another wonderful day out on the festival circuit.  Despite the gloomy weather, music fans turned out in mass to witness the musical styling’s of both local and international acts.  Yes, it was cold, rainy, windy, however this did not stop revellers from donning their festival finest and we certainly witnessed some great fashion on the day.

Musical Highlights included the spectacular Mark Ronson and the Version Players, with special guest (local talent) Daniel Merriweather.  Ronson performed an ultra energising show complete with a four piece symphony and a marvellous array of crowd pleasing stage antics and musical variety

Event - Kookai VIP Evening South Yarra

kookai
Personally, I love my Aussie labels. Besides building on my sense of patriotism when I ‘buy Aussie-made’, no other overseas brands seem to translate as seamlessly into my life, taking into account our environment, local trends and variable weather. Think huge shaggy fur coats in our mild winter. Sweat stains much? But I digress. When thinking of iconic Australian brands, can anyone go past our world renowned clothing labels? Customers everywhere are clamoring for our clothes! And for one of the biggest names, think bright turquoise shopping bags boldly emblazoned with white letters spelling ‘Kookai’. Read More…

tutu tv launchEveryone needs a couple of tees in their wardrobe. Whether you are having a rock star moment or a girl or boy next door day, we must admit that we cannot survive without our favourite t-shirts.

But tees don’t have to be basics. We left our plain t-shirts that we owned in multiple different colours back in the nineties, thank-you very much. If you want to inject some style into this essential item I have one word for you: Tutu.

Coming straight from Melbourne’s fashion underground, designer Tutu Ralogaivau, or “the guy with the fro”, created his brand TUTU*tv and travelled the world with it. Read More…

Event - Oriental Tea House V-VIP Evening

V-VIP BarI was lucky enough to be invited to a cocktail party celebrating this special night at one of Chadstone’s new restaurants, Oriental Tea House which is located outdoors. It made a lovely VIP night all the more awesome! Guests included AFL player Brad Miller and his wife Pia, Mia Klitsas of Moxie fame, and Ash Walsh, among many others. The area also featured a cool nail bar and a VVIP drinks bar. Chadstone’s VIP event was really the boost my consumer confidence needed, and injected just that little bit of Christmas revelry I needed!

What do you do when all you hear about the economy is bad news, and more bad news? Well, in the words of Kevin’07, you should spend, spend and spend! And, what better time to do it, than at Chadstone’s annual Christmas VIP shopping event? Apparently most of you agreed with me, in total there were 80,850 customers through Chadstone on November 26 - a 31% increase from last year’s event! Read More…

Event - Loreal Paris AFI Awards 2008

jammed.jpg

How does one begin to describe the glamour and excitement that is the Australian Film Industry Awards?  Well, that is the problem; I’ve been sitting here for about ten minutes attempting to start writing about our night on Saturday…where to start!?

Perhaps, I’ll just start at the beginning… Patrik and I arrived early in order to score ourselves prime position in the media pit for when the stars of Australian Film and Television walked the red carpet.  With much success, cameras and notebooks at the ready, we anxiously awaited the arrival of Australia’s most gifted actors and actresses, not to mention the oh so talented directors, producers and writers.

As the stars of small and big screen alike began to arrive, the crowd behind us were screaming, and us journo’s and photographers began a ‘gentle’ scuffle in order to firmly secure our positions in the front row of the media pit. Read More…
