We switched toasted marshmallows for wine and cheese, swapped bush-walking for painting in our pjs and (gratefully) favoured downy, double beds over sleeping bags. A towering cityscape proved a surprisingly idyllic substitute for the typical camp-side backdrop of river, beach or forest. When Art Series Hotels took over St. Jeromes The Hotel this past weekend, the glamorous camping (a.k.a. glamping) experience became even more creative. Inspired by their artist muses – Adam Cullen, Dr. John Olsen, Charles Blackman, Mark Schaller, David Larwill, Yannima Pikarli “Tommy” Watson – Art Series added some sophisticated diversions to our swag. Blank canvases waiting to be daubed with paint, art documentaries, meditation sessions and barrel-aged negronis misted with maple and coffee were added to the urban campsite’s existing private, heated en suites, mini art-gallery and luxe tents.
