APOM | Way Back When | Winter 2015

As a 90’s kid my formative years collided with the peak pop-culture dino era of Jurassic Park, the Dinosaurs tv sitcom, and Was Not Was’ one hit wonder ‘Walk the Dinosaur’ (I just aged out of getting caught up in the Barney & Friends juggernaut). By my favourite was the charming/traumatising animated film ‘The Land Before Time’. There was a character named ‘Cera’ pronounced ‘Sarah’ after all. So it was with nostalgic glee that I spotted a monochrome APOM print of certain ‘terrible lizards’ in the windows of the eclectic Swoon boutique recently (UrbanJin also stocks the range and you should take the time to seek-out APOM’s wonderful, airy flagship store too, as I did).

The ‘Way Back When’ collection pays homage to the movie with pieces named after characters and elements from the film. The aforementioned dino motif is complemented by a more colourful print illustrated by Melbourne artist Sharon Mcrae, a longtime friend and collaborator of the designers. They’ve also sourced a gorgeous French jacquard in trigonometric neons which they’ve dubbed ‘Triassic’. The fabric reminds me of the bony plates along the spine of a Stegosaurus. This in blue-green on their pencil skirt will be the next addition to my Winter wardrobe (and probably¬†a super wearable grey dino tee too – just can’t help myself).

Find APOM at 326A Carlisle Street, Balaclava.
