Get Close to VAMFF 2015

The next Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival is beckoning us to “get close” both via technology and real life means. You’ll note that in the festival’s contemporary 2015 campaign, revealed in full last night, a trio of models are pressed against glass while wearing some of the flagship Australian designer labels to showcase at the festival.

Personally I’m mostly looking forward to three solo runways from Strateas.Carlucci, Romance Was Born and Josh Goot (the latter supported by a burgeoning residential and retail re-development, the intriguing ‘Capitol Grand’ to take up residence on the corner of Toorak Road and Chapel Street). Also, the wonderfully generous Tiffany & Co. National Designer Award and, at the other end of the spectrum, Target’s fascinating National Graduate Showcase. The Fashion Film series is usually entrancing, and world famous photographer Ellen von Unwerth has even submitted a piece for the coming year. The dedicated menswear runway returns – as it should – falling back into favour this year. And Rae Morris also returns to the festival to lead the runway make-up looks alongside hair director Kenneth Stoddart on behalf of new beauty partner Priceline.

VAMFF’s Graeme Lewsey promises the event will be “the shot in the arm Australia needs to celebrate our incredible design talent”. He may just be close. Until the cultural events begin on February 15…
