Is there another item of clothing that speaks to society, class, status of women, the economy, community and personal desire as much as the sometimes controversial, sometimes coveted wedding dress? The ‘Love, Desire, Riches’ exhibition, presented by the National Trust, looks at wedding fashion from the past two centuries as worn by Hollywood’s fictional movie characters, celebrities like Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow and Meryl Streep and even real life royalty. I don’t want to spoil all of the surprises from this interactive (even olfactory!) exhibition strewn all over a grand old mansion but it includes designers Valentino, Toni Maticevski, Collette Dinnigan and even a little origami.
The Love, Desire, Riches exhibition is on now at Rippon Lea House & Garden until September 30. You can book tickets here.
