In the wake of fellow luminaries Chanel, Lagerfeld and Valentino, it’s now time for the life of iconic French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent to be committed to film. The significance of Saint Laurent’s contribution to fashion cannot be understated. At barely 21 he took over as lead designer for Dior and then assisted in the revival of haute couture in the 1960s. Later, his own house was the first to release a pret-a-porter collection (lending ready to wear respectability for the first time) and he popularised the so-called “Le Smoking” jacket. Yves Saint Laurent – the film – explores the designer’s own “doubts and demons” through to the glamour of YSL’s heights and includes many of his original fashion designs and even Saint Laurent’s no doubt “opulent” homes across the globe. How beautiful do these stills from the film make it seem?
Yves Saint Laurent premieres in Australia on June 26. I have 5 double passes to give away to StyleMelbourne readers thanks to Entertainment One Films. Simply visit me on instagram, twitter, or facebook for your chance to win.
