Style Melbourne

From Milan (to Melbourne) With Love

On the verandah at Holmwood Guesthouse

Recently a trio of renowned Italian food, lifestyle and travel bloggers visited our beloved Melbourne on the invitation of Tourism Victoria. I had the pleasure of escorting Laura of The Old Now for just a few days to show her our little corner of the earth; from cocktails at the wonderful Everleigh in Fitzroy to the city, the Dandenongs, Yarra Valley and Phillip Island to glamorous retail therapy in South Yarra. We encountered wildlife, indigenous culture and quite a lot of vino along the way! You can find all of Laura’s musings and beautiful photography of our wintry trip here or follow all of our adventures on instagram or twitter by searching for #roadtripmelbourne.

Aside from teaching Laura how to sip hot Milo through Tim Tams – naturally – and learning the Italian word for “penguins” is the uber-adorable “pinguini” (it rhymes with linguine!), here are a few of my personal Melbourne roadtrip discoveries/highlights…

Bella Vedere; cosy country French cuisine with a sumptuous dessert table that I was devastatingly too full to try.

Loot bags that take me back to my childhood (hotels please note: caramello koalas are always welcome), the free-for-all mini-bar and festively painted doors at Ovolo.

Carbo-licious paella and local vermouth at Bomba (possibly my favourite supper bar to take friends to at the moment).

Moscato turkish delight at Giant Steps. Must order the zucchini salad too.

Pretending we were in Monaco, zipping around the Phillip Island Grand Prix racetrack in miniature.

The crackling fireplace at the cosily-appointed Holmwood Guesthouse. I’ll definitely be staying in one of the cottages there, once they are revamped soon, next time I’m down Cowes way.
