Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival 2014

Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival. VAMFF. Get used to rolling that name off your tongue as the beloved fashion event has a new co-pilot in the airline (I promise that will be my last aviation-related nod to the partnership). “VAMFF” does have a certain ring to it though. At VAMFF’s recent campaign launch the festival kept any major changes their new name might lure under wraps for now.

The hinted-at Grand Showcase seems to be a new version of the Red Carpet Runway. I wonder who the headliner will be; perhaps Martin Grant after his new association with David Jones? Perhaps it would be too cheeky for Willow to take to the catwalk and try to put a emphatic stamp on the label’s future after recent dramas? The fashion film series will spread across more screens with the help of anticipated new Melbourne shopping destination Emporium and Russh magazine. And budding fashion designers still stuck in high school will have the chance to take their ideas to the runway. Target has taken over from Sportsgirl in support of my beloved National Graduate Runway. While the department store may not have as much of a cool, youthful factor as the high street label, they certainly open up more opportunity for the graduates in terms of mentorship outside the realm of womenswear so that’s a very good thing.

Teasing at some of the trends we may see on the 2014 Autumn/Winter runways was a brief show styled by Kate Gaskin and featuring the likes of Christina Exie, Richard Nylon, shoes from Miss Louise, Willow, Christine boutique, Michael Lo Sordo, Alex Blak, Akira and Dion Lee.

Tickets are on sale now for the fashionably early.

Are there any big names modelling at VAMFF? If so, can you tell me who? Thanks

  2. Megan Gale will be in attendance but won’t be modelling on the runway, as will Eva Longoria.

It’s possible Jessica Gomes may walk the David Jones runway.
