DressCode: Derby Day 2013

The races call for some measure of thoughtfulness to be put into your look so for chi chi tresses why look any further than a glamorous South Yarra salon? The wonderful folks at Conrad Mace (thank you stylist Sarah!) were responsible for my favoured asymmetrical Jessica Rabbit ‘do on Derby Day. As I was making my escape from the birdcage late in the day, one very kind guestlist overlord commented  that “you look as fresh as when you came in this morning” (so either I looked dire from the get-go or the curls stayed put – let’s agree on the latter).

I felt like expressing a demure mood this carnival season. My ladylike silk dress was by Karen Millen; I couldn’t resist the bell sleeves and open back! My complementary headpiece was by London-based, Australian milliner (and On Track, On Trend co-founder) Lisa Tan. Lisa creates refined, interesting, modern headwear and is one of my favourite hat makers. This particular hat is named ‘Jean’ and is hopefully destined for the heads of some very pretty ladies over the week (my lips must be sealed for now). The hats waves reminds me of the ripples of a rather avant garde Viennetta.

Tell me your tales of Derby Day…
