The Fashionable Cocktail at MSFW

Cocktails are not about getting wasted (no matter how elegantly). They are about dressing up, experiencing a very grown-up ritual and perhaps becoming “pleasantly giddily tiddly” as fashion writer Janice Breen Burns puts it. Savouring cocktails is about knowing who you are. Fashion and music journalist (and now three time author) Jane Rocca officially launched her new book ‘The Fashionable Cocktail; 200 Fabulous Drinks for the Fashion Set‘ last night. The tome divides drinkers up into their preferred – sartorial and sipping – styles; vintage, bohemian, haute couture etc. Recipes, sourced from the best bartenders in Melbourne, Sydney and New York, have been brought to retro life by illustrator Neryl Walker. I can already recommend the rosewater and chocolate scented Turkish Delight Martini and I can’t wait to try out a cranberry and rosemary spiked infusion from ‘The Fashionable Cocktail’ as the festive season nears.

There will be a public book launch party next Tuesday from 7pm as part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Hosted at Touche Hombre by Helen Razer, guests will enjoy fashion from Nevenka and Leona Edmiston, Mexican canapés, a gift bag of special treats, a couple of cocktails (naturally) and their own signed copy of the book. Book tickets here.
