Behind the Scenes | Country Road | Spring 2013

Country Road Spring Summer 2013

A little teaser for you. Way back in June, Country Road kindly invited me on set for a glimpse at the makings of their Spring 2013 campaign. Returning to our shores to pose once again for the iconic Australian label is Iris Van Berne; the Dutch model being a current star of Oscar De Le Renta’s Fall campaign and the recently walking for the likes of Viktor & Rolf and Versace at Couture Fashion Week in Paris. Showcasing Country Road’s menswear this season is German model Lars Burmeister (who you may recognise as the face of the fragrance Joop).

This worldly flavour is reflected in the collection. Country Road acknowledge nods to the Parisian with Breton stripes and to the Orient via fluttery kimono-reminiscent sleeves. I see a hint of a Swedish Marimekko-ish influence too. Off-beat prints reign for Spring. Ukiyo-E style Japanese etchings, seafaring maps and even yet-to-be-fried green tomatoes pop up as prints. I do appreciate that Country Road – particularly in recent years – like to spike their classic designs with pieces for the more adventurous. Keep an eye out for key bomber jackets, raffia and a luscious white leather biker jacket when the Spring 2013 fashion campaign is revealed tomorrow.
