Thoroughly British furniture designer Timothy Oulton has made his first foray into Melbourne in conjunction with Coco Republic. Having grown up on Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers books, I can see how his pieces speak to the imagined nostalgia of boarding school. There’s weathered leathers intended to be jumped upon against the headmaster’s behest, pommel horses fashioned into benches and an overall sense of mischievousness. With nods to themes from equestrian to aviation; the new boutique is such an ode to Ol’ Blighty that I half expect Kate Moss to pop out of a drawer or find Stella McCartney lounging on a rather masculine sofa.
Find Timothy Oulton at 488 Church Street, Richmond.
