Melbourne Spaces: A-Esque

A-Esque by Amanda Briskin Rettig

Label whore? You can probably just go right ahead and ignore Amanda Briskin-Rettig’s latest venture. Founding the undeniably successful Mimco brand many moons ago, Amanda’s new label A-Esque is quite the antithesis to accessories that demand attention. Oh, you’ll still coo over supple Italian leathergoods but this time around her designs are defined by quiet elegance and local craftmanship. Amanda says of the imortance of Australian to her ethos, “I’m generally influenced by my surroundings. When I go overseas I’m inspired personally for my own wardrobe, but it’s always been locally that I’ve been inspired in terms of design”.

Strolling through unassuming store front on the chi-chi end of Chapel Street, those with a penchant for the finer things in life could be rewarded with handbags in experimental silhouettes, hand-picked gold trinkets that could easily become cherished heirlooms or vintage findings from the 60′s fashioned into bracelets. And perhaps the chicest version of a backpack you may ever see.

Discover A-Esque at 553 Chapel Street, South Yarra.

  1. She’s got some cool shades in stock. Thank god they’re unisex!
