Philip Boon presents: ML Vintage

Fashion is a world of extremes. In past years we’ve seen a demand rise and wane for niche models who are heroin chic thin, rotund, androgynous or very young. Now, with the success of Ari Seth Cohen’s Advanced Style project and the renewed buzz about the “world’s oldest supermodel” Carmen Dell’Orefice, it seems women “of a certain vintage” are suddenly the new ‘it girls’. Or should that be ‘it matriarchs’?

Photographer Marnie Haddad and stylist Philip Boon recently took it upon themselves to create an Advanced Style-esque editorial with 88 year Mary Lipshut and her friends. All of the fashion pieces are from collections at Mary’s appointment-only South Yarra boutique ML Vintage. Boy, would I like to share a few G&Ts with these ladies and hear their stories. Also, just look at that apartment! It’s Mary’s own; virtually unchanged since the 1970’s.

Vintage fashion lovers – both youthful and ‘classic’ – in Melbourne are soon in for a treat. For decades Mary has been curating pieces by designers such as Missoni, Pucci and Versace. Now comes a very rare chance to see them as Philip Boon presents ML Vintage; the first of a series of salon style shows for the Prahran Mission. Watch the show over a luxurious lunch and a little jazz at Circa on April 17. Click here for full details and/or to book tickets.
