Shakuhachi’s new collection ‘Cyber Barbarella’ is a mash-up of prints (digi-floral meets zebra meets dig-floral again) and themes (retro femininity vs. quasi-futuristic). It all sounds a little confused, but somehow works as high-tech fabrics – polyurethane, glossed and metallic materials and cellophane-like paillettes – provide cohesion. The range is a lot of fun. I now covet designer Jessie White’s take on a floral kimono and succulents-from-another-world neckpieces; which remind me of a cross between Kate Rohde’s jewellery and gift-wrapping adornments (which is a very good thing).
