Midmouse Runway 2 at Penthouse Mouse

So Penthouse Mouse‘s Midmouse runway part deux was filled with a handful of labels to buzz about. While the newest name of the bunch, Keegan, evolved from designer and co-founder of Swoon boutique Keegan Hunt’s former design life it has taken her in a completely new aesthetic direction. Debuting this season, the label is angular and subtly futuristic.

Christine Exie (reigning Project Runway Australia champion) is presently negotiating two worlds. One is the underground, slightly intellectual design scene that many of her fellow RMIT alumni call home (Christina’s part of the new Five Kinds collective that held the Fantasura fashion exhibition recently). The other is the alluring sphere of Australia’s Fashion Week at which her burgeoning label is showing Spring Summer, a chance many young labels will never grasp.

Jason Hewitt returns to LMFF with his signature painterly x tribal patterns and laid back silhouettes. Can anybody enlighten me; what exactly does SAAS (splashed across tees) mean? South African Audit Standard? Raggatt also tends towards relaxed shapes; their pieces enrobing the female form as if by will rather than stitches.

Neo Dia continues to make me feel intellectually inferior with their abstract mathematical or scientific reference points. Still I don’t need to be s.m.a.r.t. to covet their beautifully-cut, blue suede overcoat and digital print pencil skirt. To me their Autumn Winter 2013 is sci-fi goes sporty.

Judging by this showcase, billowing cloak-y styles of coats (several versions appeared) are mandatory this season. I would dub them a “cloat” except Urban Dictionary tells me it has a meaning that is not fit to utter in polite company (google it at your own peril).

2 Thoughts on “Midmouse Runway 2 at Penthouse Mouse

  1. Not “SAAS”, “BAAS” – Lower Afrikaans for Boss based on Dutch “Baes”

  2. That make SO much more sense Kate. Totally looked like an ‘S’ from where we were sitting but my googling couldn’t find any good acronym for that!
