Top 5 Trends to try this Summer

New season fashion; it’s what the style-focussed community yearns for. Summer is fast approaching and, though I’d certainly not encourage the slavish following of trends, let’s face it experimenting with a fresh look can be fun! I’ve scoured the fashion week catwalks to figure out a handful of trends that I’d like to attempt for the upcoming season. Hopefully there’s something below that sparks your sartorial creativity too.

Gold & Metallic
All that glitters may in fact be gold this season. Maybe “sports luxe” was too obvious a fashion trend to attempt in an Olympic year? Instead we seem to be going for gold by wearing metallic hues from head to toe. For now it seems the trend is focussed on the standard trio of gold, silver and bronze; but expect it to evolve into metallicised colours as the season progresses. Can’t decide which heavy metal to pay tribute too? I’d say it’s time for rose gold to – literally – shine.

Aquatic
Remember that old adage “blue and green must never be seen, except with something in between”? This Summer brings forth a good excuse to break that rule (who needs ‘em?) as blocks of oceanic blues and greens team up and feature in abstract prints. While design graduate Lauren Slaviero’s version below may be a tad extreme, this Aquatic trend’s entrancing underwater reef and fishy digital prints should have us humming ‘Under the Sea’ in no time.
