Stylist Virginia Dowzer was charged with the epic task of producing the 30-strong designer student runway show at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week last night. It’s a role she relishes; “I just adore it, it’s my favourite show and it just landed in my lap. I’m afraid one day they will take it away from me!” Virginia loves being involved with student designers at the “peak of their creativity; it gives me faith” in the fashion industry. She is particularly interested in ”really complex, smart clothing that talks to you or has lighting, or sound…designs that are solving problems from the future. It’s all very space-y”.
For example, young designer Nixi Killock is “producing what is particularly space age in terms of skill and design as well as being pastel colours, in a ‘light’ take on the future”. Virginia explains, “I have a theory that in the future we will all be wearing a leotards that are water compatible but what what we wear over the top of that as decoration will be holograms. I’m enjoying watching my theory come closer to reality. These students’ work is indicating to me that I’m not completely mad!”
