For decades before Lana Del Rey crooned about blue jeans, denim has been intrinsically linked with the music scene. Levi’s brought a little of the rock and roll genre to town for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week along with a New York inspired show. Levi’s show stylist Marc Wasiak explained that in Australia we are treated to what is essentially a preview collection straight from New York Fashion Week runways of next season. Lucky us!
The showcase featured a live band, skateboarding models and polaroid snapshots taken live from the catwalk. The collection itself mostly featured clean denim in a range of washes from ink to bleached almost-white and anything-goes lengths; often paired with tipped collared shirting and bowler hats. Highlight pieces for me were the bronzed metallic jeans, a women’s tuxedo-style shirt and a flouncy full skirt in denim artistically faded at the hemline.
Here’s a selection of my favourite looks from the Levi’s runway.
