Style Melbourne

MSFW 2012 Opening Party

Why have we not thrown the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week opening party at the Melbourne Town Hall before? Dressed in swathes of chiffon and punctuated with near-neon flowers, the space felt intimate but no less grand. An operatic trio, a pipe-organ performance and acrobatics enforced the luxurious atmosphere at the opening soiree. Melbourne fashion can be grungy and underground but it’s nice to turn on the glamour sometimes too. It’s certainly more my style.

I thought Richard Nylon was the best dressed guest in the house with his glittering veiled bowler hat and immaculately groomed beard. Meanwhile, there were rumours of minor drama when it came to face of the festival Annaleise Smith’s dress; apparently it was to be rushed off for a wedding at the last minute (Brian McFadden/Vogue Williams anyone?) Annaleise still looked stellar in a citrus J’Aton gown while her fellow faces Jake Sofo, Ebony Edwards and Emily Trimble-Thompson sported some killer jewels at the black tie affair.

Melbourne’s infamous weather is promising sunshine for the first few days of the festival at least so here’s to a week of stylish new season celebrations.
