Unintentionally, ‘Temporal Tangent’ is an apt name for Neo Dia‘s upcoming summer collection. When dividing the terms, ‘temporal’ could refer to being down to earth, while ‘tangent’ is often most often used to describe diverging slightly from your usual path. I draw these links because commercial factors are a reality for any long-lasting designer these days, and Neo Dia’s Spring Summer 2012-13 may be their most buyable collection yet. And I personally adore it.
The collection still retains designers Becky and Gavin’s signatures; strong lines, inventive shapes and an artistic starting point. Striking reds and whites act as a folded and tailored base, accented by luxe metallics. Sad to say I couldn’t get away with the gold foil shorts, but its sister mini-skirt along with their nifty shirting and amazingly cut jacket have my credit card itching. This time around Neo Dia’s muse is artist Salvador Dali and his surrealist works; ‘The Persistence of Memory’ with its famously melting shapes and the sunset colour palette of ‘The Elephants’. The label certainly knows how to create wearable works of art.
Can’t wait to see it in real life on the catwalk at the Tomorrow’s Heroes show.
