In 2012, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week celebrates its 18th birthday. And they’ve invited, not the traditional one, but four “faces” to the party. The model quartet is made up of international catwalker Annaleise Smith, MSFW’s first ever male face Jake Sofo, the fresh faced Ebony Edwards and a flame-haired Emily Trimble-Thompson who happen to be the progeny of an ex-Collingwood footballer and a former Miss Victoria (how perfectly “Melbourne” is that?) The events program launched this morning in hidden laneway Presgrave Place as blooms sprouting from milk crates hinted at an impending new season.
With a month and a half to go here’s my edited selection of must-dos at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2012:
Student Runway – RMIT’s final year students showcase Melbourne’s potential future of fashion.
Tomorrow’s Heroes Runway – A promising selection of fresh labels including Livia Arena, Neo Dia, Thursday Sunday & Catherine Leon hit the catwalk.
French Fashion Design – An illustrative exhibition of Parisian Haute Couture.
Ready to Wear Colour – A cosmetics colour workshop at Miss Fox’s city beauty salon.
Make Me Racey – Inspiration for hairstyles fit for the Birdcage at the Spring Racing Carnival by Kevin Murphy.
Parallel Tensions exhibition – An exhibition of designs from intriguing independent labels.
MSFW High Tea – Promising Gatsby-esque style. Let alone cucumber sandwiches.
Collection 3056 – A touch of avant-garde style your thing? This runway show is for you.
