The fantasy of fleeing to Paris has been put on hold as young Melbourne designer Jacki Anderson launched her debut collection of handbags last night. Three and a half years in the making, the Australian-made range comprises shoulder bags, clutch purses and belts in neutrals – often with unexpected contrast on the inside – and pop-colours of candy pink and blue. The pieces favour relative simplicity (while fringing, metal finishings, pony hair and croc-print provide interest) and longevity over a trend-focus. For this collection Jacki has collaborated with local jewellery label Edenborough Evans. After falling in love with their dripping metal pieces, she “just had to have” some detachable Edenborough Evans elements adorning her bags.
Jacki Anderson’s second range is due out in only a couple of months time. She says to expect something “completely different”.
The designer chats with prominent Australian buyer Sarah Gale
