Penthouse Mouse Opening Party 2012

Penthouse Mouse has returned for a fleeting week, flying a big fat flag for independent Australian Fashion at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. The collaborative retail space sees local labels interspersed between works of art; this year themed towards a brief of ‘mechanical interference’. Wednesday evening exposes the reality of a fashion editorial photoshoot, inviting PHM visitors in for a behind the scenes glimpse. While Friday night caps off the event with a pair of ‘Mid-Mouse runway’ shows.

For me the real highlight are the buyables. Rarely are this many unique designers located under the same (temporary) roof. I covet Neo Dia’s emerald blazer, Jolet’s cityscape-printed frocks, non-disco-esque sequinned pieces by Where Lovers Lie, The Social Studio’s marbled digi-print skirt and perhaps one of Di$counts studded neon jackets. The jewels are out of this world; particularly Hamish Munro’s neon neckpieces, Alexandra Blak’s cuffs mimicking gold ticker-tape and Maripossa’s chain necklaces so finely woven metal seems like lace.

Your invitation to visit this particular peculiar Penthouse expires at the end of the week.
