LMFF: Mimco 2012

Accessories junkies eat your heart out. Mimco’s 2012 ‘Dreamwarp Society’ collection hit the runway at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. Literally starting with a bang, a Chinese drum performance heralded the start of the show. Models – including Jessica Gomes – with dramatic poodle hair and the ultimate panda-eye makeup toted all manner of jewels, bags, shoes, hats, scarves and umbrellas down the catwalk.

Mimco ensured seats were crammed with fashion bloggers (including my lucky self) laden with their own bags and jewels as part of their ‘Front Row’ project; more on that later. The collection itself is, at least in part, inspired by the east-meets-west culture of Shanghai and Hong Kong. And perhaps more generally, by China’s new-found taste for wealth. ‘Opulence’ and ‘decadence’ are terms that come to mind when viewing Mimco’s scarlet furs (faux) and layers of fat pearls. Burnished gold, tassels and zebra print round out the nouveau riche look. My favourite pieces apart from the aforementioned pearls in the form of a harness, are the deliciously sequinned luxe lock tote bag and the I-don’t-think-they’re-for-sale fringed umbrellas.

I’m having a tassels and fringing moment; what are you loving in accessories this season?
