Part of LMFF’s cultural program, Fashion Capitals of the World invited recent graduates and fashion design students from the traditional design epicentres of Milan, Paris and London and emerging capital of Barcelona to share the runway with rising designers from Melbourne’s Australian Academy of Design. These young designers were overall informed by the design cultures of their respective cities, but also inspired by such varied sources as celebrated designers like McQueen or Galliano, themes of isolation, sustainability and the female form.
These designers are on the rise having collectively already scored coveted internships or work with big names such as Alexander McQueen, Prada, Elie Saab, Rick Owens, Nina Ricci, Yves Saint Laurent and our very own Yeojin Bae and Gwendolynne Burkin.
Exhibition of the catwalk designs is happening tonight only from 6.30pm at the Australian Academy of Design, 220 Ingles Street, Port Melbourne. An accompanying international fashion photography exhibition will continue until April 5th.
