Model casting: LMFF Opening

Hundreds of local models, including last years’ Melbourne Spring Fashion Week face Sophie Van Den Akker, lined up out the door of Comme as they vied for their place to walk in the David Jones Autumn Winter runway show; the 2012 L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival‘s opening event. Only around 40 beauties nationwide will be cast alongside Miranda Kerr with open calls held in Sydney and Melbourne.

“I’m astounded by the size of the turnout. Melbourne really turns it on,” gushed David Jones stylist Kelvin Harries; who has been tasked with selecting the models. While the core of the show will be the same as David Jones’ national season launch in Sydney in mid-February, Harries says he may give the show a “slight tweak” for Melbourne guests given the month’s wait. The show’s theme, as tradition, will be “based around the destination of the {David Jones A/W} campaign”.

LMFF CEO Graeme Lewsey was also on hand to find the right guys and dolls for the event. He describes the opening event as, “incredibly exciting…a New York-style block party concept as the neighborhood comes out for a special occasion.” And we’re all invited!
