I had been meaning to share this collection by Lui Hon with you many months ago when it first graced my inbox. Amid springtime frivolities it seemed premature to be speaking of the upcoming Autumn Winter season. Now the chill seems no less distant, but the images have been calling to me once again, as per the range’s title ‘Whispering Roots’.
For Hon the collection is about, “being proud of the past, embracing our roots.” For me it evokes blurred memories of porcelain figurines of Chinese fisherman; in no small part due to the saucer-like hats created especially by acclaimed milliner Richard Nylon. On the whole the collection is cosily elegant with a sense of fluidity; a trademark of Hon’s is to make pieces that in shapes and form that are malleable to the wearer’s whim.
The leather sleeves with dangling ties and the boot leggings are particularly striking and combine for an armor-like effect. Oh to be able to pull off one of the looks in head-to-toe white!
