“The best fashion show is definitely on the street. Always has been and always will be”. So says Bill Cunningham, a true pioneer of the street style photography movement. Riding around on his bicycle and taking candid shots of people on the streets of Manhattan and society figures since The Sartorialist was knee high to a grasshopper; Bill has become a fashion institution.

The new documentary film ‘Bill Cunningham New York‘ takes a look at the figure behind the lens. A lens which has captured Greta Garbo, Anna Wintour, and names like Astor and Rockefeller in all their – sometimes outlandish – finery. Over the decades his photographs have become a documentary on style all of their own. Can you imagine the things, clothes and people he’s seen?

The film opens in Melbourne from November 3rd.
