Champagne, Hats & High Tea

Yes, there was champagne (French, of course), hats (by Zuzana Vranovska, Serena Lindeman, Kerrie Stanley) and high tea at the InterContinental Rialto; and yet so much more.

I strolled into the Alluvial last week expecting an intimate soiree – perhaps a glass of bubbles and a few pastries. Instead I found myself amid this glorious high tea spread punctuated by citrus-striped hat boxes, chocolate sculptures and lovely creatures gliding through the crowd in couture and spring designs.

The inaugural event celebrated spring glamour while raising funds for the Victorian wing of the Special Olympics who want to dramatically boost the numbers of intellectually disabled participants in sport. Why not include equine sports one day too?

Couturier Craig Braybrook opened the salon show with his Marie Antoinette’s last night in Versailles inspired collection produced for the Project Runway Australia finale. John Cavill, Godwin Charli, along with pieces by Aurelio Costarella, Alex Perry, Anthea Solopotias, Tim O’Connor and Toni Maticevski from Port Melbourne boutique Ganache’s selection rounded out the showcase capped off by beaded loveliness from Gwendolynne.
