Megan Park Spring Summer 2011

Though the state of Rajasthan translates to “land of the kings” Megan Park’s latest collection is fit for a queen. The designer’s Spring Summer 2011 collection takes inspiration from her time spent alongside local artisans in India. As the area is also known as ‘the land of colours’ Megan promises the collection will grow ‘brighter, hotter, punchy and more fluorescent” as the season progresses.

For now, vibrancy is included by way of prints (digital rather than the label’s usual screen-prints) inspired by antique textiles, beading that can take “a day, up to a week” to develop, metallic “mukesh” work and jewelled pieces featuring quartz, swarovski crystals and raffia.

I’m a fan of unexpected pops of sizzling peach, the wonderful mosaic printed silk and the vivid, painterly prints that give this Indian-inspired range a touch of Australian flavour reminiscent of Ken Done or Jenny Kee. Brilliant bejewelled cuffs, and a silver cloche hat are also on the covetable list.
