It’s only two weeks until Spring blooms. This also means that it’s not long until the iSelect Fashion+Aid gala returns to the Palladium Ballroom at Crown, 8 Whiteman Street, Southbank. On Saturday 10th September from 7pm to midnight the social(ly conscious) event of the year springs into action; a grand way to round out your fashion week schedule. This year the event supports the Lighthouse Foundation who provide “a home, family and relationships for life” for abused and neglected children, breaking the cycle so that one day their own children never have to experience daily trauma.
As always there will be glittering musical and dance performances and a lick -your-plate-clean -while-no-one-is-looking dinner by chefs George Calombaris and Shane Delia, finished off by dancing the evening away. Among the raffle prizes and auctions you could take home a couture gown by Six Dresses, sparkling jewellery, or my personal favourite a private tropical getaway to Turtle Island.
Naturally, we are mostly interested in the fashion. This year’s catwalk will feature established designer names and new labels making their debut; Wayne Cooper, Jason Grech, mossee, Nathan Paul Swimwear, Tony Bianco, Robb & Lulu, Anthea Solopotias, Cadeau Republic sleepwear, Coco Riche swimwear, Seven Souls, Kyboe’s fab watches and Jonte by fashion graduate Jonte Pike. I stole a moment from some of the designers at the recent launch at St Katherine’s restaurant to ask “what should Fashion+Aid guests expect from the show?”;
Jason Grech – “Something different, very delicate, that involves hundreds of hours of handwork.”
Seven Souls – “This season is insects, little beaded insects but for our A/W 2012 preview there will be lots of black, lime green and terracotta.”
Anthea Solopotias – “My eight pieces are more ‘spring carnival’. I’m in love with lace and florals.”
Cadeau Republic – “We like using traditional motifs and introducing vibrant colour and interesting texture”
