On a Mission

65 years of the Prahran Mission were celebrated in one glamorous night at Mission 65. Drawing on Christian Dior’s ‘New Look’, students from the Whitehouse Institute of Design and renowned fashion designers such as Jenny Bannister, Project Runway’s Anthony Capon and the team behind Madame Virtue and Co. transformed garments sourced from the Mission’s opportunity shops into intricate 1940’s inspired pieces.

The runway show gave rise to the wartime notion of ‘make do and mend’. Midi hems, exaggerated shoulders and cinched waists tempted and reminded attendees of an era of fashion that was both pragmatic and still managed to be innately stylish.
