Eat your heart out

Fashion is about to become even more delicious. The gluttonous gala event that is Eat Street returns for 2011 with a retro twist. On the evening of Tuesday 21st June, the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins (25 Collins Street, Melbourne) ballroom will be transformed into a 1950′s dream as 40 of our best eateries and chefs – think Phillip Mouchel, Shane Delia and George Calombaris –  establish temporary pop-up restaurants for the night.

This year ten Australian designers/labels have taken inspiration from the dishes served up to create one-off aprons; Sass & Bide, Gwendolynne, rising star Jack Loder, Fleur Wood, Megan Park, Mimco, LIFEwithBIRD, Nicholas Morley, Willow & Alice McCall. The aprons will be auctioned off among other wonderful treats for the Australian Childhood Foundation.

Tickets are $150 per head (includes a plethora of food, wine and entertainment). To book call 03 9653 7717 or email H1902-fb26@sofitel.com.

What a fabulous event – and those aprons are quite beyond fabulous. Especially the Gwendolynne one – I love her clothes designs and this must surely be the most glamourous apron on the planet!

[...] Alas a case of the dreaded sniffles kept me away from Eat Street; an event that combines fashion and food for the Australian Childhood Foundation. This year’s theme was deliciously retro as designers and labels like Mimco, Fleur Wood, Megan Park and Willow stepped back in time to the 1950′s kitchens of yore to whip up a batch of aprons inspired by various chefs’ recipes. You can peek at the apron designs here. [...]
