Offsite runway 2 at Penthouse Mouse

On the final night of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival for 2011, Offsite Runway 2 was where the cool kids played. A wharf shed was transformed into a raw runway and bar space waiting to unveil the latest winter collections of five independent designers.

Squeezing in a backstage visit, I managed a quick chat with master make-up artist Max May. In his 3rd year at LMFF he has looked after three events this year including the Bonds, GQ Menswear Runway (including the make up of supermodel Helena Christensen) and both Penthouse Mouse Offsite Runways. Living between LA and Sydney, Paris and New York fashion weeks are part of his annual work routine. Ahhh, the life! To the show.

Trimäpee presented edgy and distressed styles with full leather ensembles from vests, skirts and pants teamed with bright coloured tights in geometric patterns. With charcoal and black as a favoured hue, layered trenches, oversized jumpers and draped knitwear directed the tran-seasonal collection – just add boots for Winter.

A softer approach to the season, above. reinvented the classics from the dress shirt, blazer, trench and cardigan. Working with taupe, beige, navy and teal colours the luxurious pieces were draped over harem pants and tailored skirts exuding warmth and effortless style.

Dedicated to aesthetic luxury Extinct focused on minimalistic design and timeless style for their Winter collection. Velvet and leather skirts teamed with blazers and capes in a warm burgundy colour. A refreshing navy full length overall and white trench created a distinctive style.

Proving an accessory can be the key feature of your outfit, House of Baulch revealed the bold and the beautiful from their winter collection. Models in black, gold and white jumpsuits were adorned in jewellery featuring gold, silver and black pieces. From bold stones and heavy chains to the intricate silver pendants, there is something to delight everyone.
