Style Melbourne

Melbourne Spaces: Tale

Let me tell you a tale…

Once upon a time (ie. now) Australians Steve Hibberd and Liz Palmieri joined forces with Celia Philo (that’s ex-Chloe designer & current Celine designer Phoebe Philo’s mum for those paying attention) to bring a touch of European style to our local interiors. They have sourced true vintage pieces with origins as far flung as England, Italy and France and shipped them to our shores.

The idea is to highlight the story behind each treasure; where it was unearthed, what it had originally been used for, who loved it first. Tale then displays this story alongside each piece in a customised book. Among the expected retro woven rugs, vases and armchairs you might find an old paint-daubed sea chest or a metalwork baby’s cot complete with dangling mobiles (they suggest using it as an offbeat garden planter). Tale is currently also sourcing local furniture artisans and will soon complement their vintage range with new, quality designs.

Tale can be found online along with several pop-up shops appearing throughout the year. The first Tale pop-up shop has launched at Shop 38, Pran Central on Commercial Road in Prahran. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11am-5.30pm or by appointment until early April.
